Junking Finds July 2018

It's not that I haven't been junking---I have, but more like selective purchasing in thrift stores.  But, when you see something unusual or for a specific person, I can't resist.

Montage of finds for July.

I think I found this in late June? Tortilla warmer for a gift of a crazy person who has chickens. You know who you are....!

It's actually Made in Mexico. Has some crazing, but I love the color and strong design. 

Found one on Ebay---sold for $25.00 so I guess it was a great buy at around $7.

I love handworked linens. This was on such a nice European linen towel, has a fold mark, which should come out in a good wash, but probably never used....and it's already hanging on my rack in the kitchen.

Another old friend by myself, circa 1990's colander. No signature on this, because of hanging as a decor item. see (Finding Old Friends) about my pottery career.

I made maybe a dozen of these hand thrown and just such a pain, poking out all those holes. This was probably hung on the wall, or used for fruit. Despite the pastels, I will use it in my own kitchen.  

I love this pattern and pick up small pieces of it any time I see them. It's Vernon Kilns-California made, Pattern is Chintz--it's very popular still, made during the 1940s.  

Found this adorable ==perfect==baby dish, with the cutest motifs. 

The pink handles and button are early plastic and the metal bottom was a reservoir for putting in hot water via the screw top pink button.

Baby's food stayed nice and warm. This probably had an adorable metal lid with a pink knob.

No maker mark, but a dealer on Ebay has a dish with this button listed as Bartsch and made in Chicago. Dating this early 1940's or a bit older. Perfect gift for a new Grandmother...! I found this in perfect condition at $1.99. 

The  signed Arnold Alanig? ."Spring Garden Print" is a print from an etching print. It is quite nice, and was only $3.00. Gold is not my favorite accent, but mattes take resurfacing well, and white paint to the frame will be perfect for the bedroom.

I knew this wasnt' old, vintage, but not old. I suspect it might be a Victorian Trading piece, dated 1991.... It is silver-plate, nicely detailed and a lovely shape for displaying whatever from cards, fans to flowers. 

Nice frame, 50cents...totally doable ---will use this in the craft room or redo.

I think this a super find...10 luncheons, 6 soup, and 4 dinner plates. A little more than I like to pay---but again, Vernon Kilns made in California 1942 called Cosmos. All the pieces are perfect---no scratches even, just some light crazing on edges and backs common to this type of pottery. Has a very Arts & Crafts Movement vibe...like from the early 1900's. I'm not a pink(call this cranberry pastel) and certainly don't need anymore dishes. 

These will go to the shop---but I won't mind if they don't sell. 

Love the roping detail on these...you can see how tight the surface glaze is...all the blue, green and yellow are handpainted. Labor intensive, no wonder it was dropped during the war years. 

Backside of this gorgeous Antique pitcher. Just a really pretty shape, most of the gold is intact.

This must have been part of a Toilette set. Can you imagine say 9-13 pieces of this in your bedroom? 

There is a stress crack below the handle, probably occurring during molding in the factory. Iron from water has seeped through the inside leaving a trail of iron, but the crack is sealed on the outside with glaze. It will be fine for another 100 years picked up with two hands.

Notice the iron on the bottom from sitting probably in a damp bowl, day after day.

Marked Maddock's Lamberton Works, Royal Porcelain

These early pieces had the round “Maddock's Lamberton Works” backstamp with “Royal Porcelain” curved below. The company was based in Trenton, New Jersey, and the pitcher was made circa 1890s. From pinterest pages, this company made lots of utilitarian Victorian bath ensembles.

Vintage Teapot, Peonies, and Strawberries

Early this week I picked a huge bouquet of banged up peonies after a beating rain...but with the crazy weather we have had, HOT-HOT-HOT....they were already wilting. Loosely arranged in my trusty OLD Granny's enamel coffeepot, they shabbily graced the kitchen table.

Next morning my NEW OLD teapot arrived from Etsy. It's a 10-cup unmarked porcelain teapot with a brass handle. Vintage for sure, but no way of knowing the age.

I didn't even wash it, but immediately put my teapot on the table, just as is...and had to take pictures. OMG, I love the design, the weight, and the great brass handle. The price was right, and I had been looking for a teapot for quite awhile. I have no less than six coffeepots for serving, but no large teapots.

The brass handle unscrews for proper cleaning. I love the quilting design. I chose it for the classic shape, and the blue/white design on the gray-white porcelain. This will blend well with my Copenhagen porcelain. The teapot that matches my dishes goes as high as $350 or so --- so, this one was a desirable alternative.

As a potter, I had probably made a couple of hundred teapots, but had never kept any. This has a nice classic and yet country vibe.

My husband tried to eat one of these strawberries. Heavy resin, they were $2.00 at a thrift store and perfect for June.

They really do look delicious. The fridge has had fresh strawberries in it for the last month.

These strawberries all have crispy green tops, and are non-staining on my OLD vintage napkin. I love old linens. This napkin is the last one of my mom's from the 40's.

The OLD 1930's stoneware bowl has a waffle design glazed in a rich baby blue matte.  I have had no luck in finding the maker on this one as many potteries used this design. But, I picked it up for $2.00, so it doesn't matter.

So NEW OLD Teapot, OLD stoneware bowls, OLD family wool carders, vintage OLD 40-50's enamel coffeepot, vintage OLD linens and NEW fresh resin strawberries.

Last Week's Find: Cheese grinder to Fairies.

 Some Junkin', Thriftin', and Craft Show Finds

 Last week was very busy, but everytime I was out, I went to a thrift shop or garage sale, on the hunt for OLD, NEW, GREEN, to REDO.

Sunday, E and I went to a craft show...more on that later.

Now here is my OLD ChiPPy-SHaBBy buy from last June. 

I didn't buy it at the Elkhorn Flea, but 

emailed Jeanine and paid her for it afterwards.

Saturday, I schlepped up to Wisconsin to pick it up. 

She had a lovely show in her garage, in the midst of cold temps, rain, and a fierce winds. 

The buying locusts had already descended...but you can see some of her show(s) Here.

 This will be going in my master bedroom redo...sometime this winter. I'm excited---it works, but I will be softening the green and yellow somehow...a REDO but can't wait.

 I bought this OLD cheese grater for my husband. The blades looked like it had been barely used.

The wood block fits tight...so I think it just sat on someone's shelf for a long time.

We will sand it down and use it. I will do some more

research on it.

 I think the green metal is so interesting...apparently a bit of 

manufacturing advertising also with the "V". 

The grater blades are actually two---one for each direction, 

this is for hard cheese or super fine shredding of vegetables.

 Here is the NEW second fairy---a bit of felted delight purchased at the craft show...adorable. 

I have ordered a matching gnome.

 I'm crafty but realize some things I will just not get around to making, and I purchase those.

My husband went to an Antique Mall without me...?????

and purchased these OLD small dollhouse furnishings for the 

1950's Marx Metal Dollhouse we have downstairs for Grandbaby to play with. 

The drawers all work on the little bed, mark on bottom says 1994, my gosh that's vintage now.

The stove is wood and I don't know if it will fit in as I do have some Remark furniture, otherwise it will end up in my Etsy shop.

 I found this gorgeous white throw----Twin size...rayon and cotton. It's perfect with minimal wear...and so textured and lovely. I'm tempted to make a coat of it as a REDO, but we will see.

Hubby bought the doll chairs set in a bag with the checkered chair and pink set below.

 It's really cute...a little garish...but then that dollhouse needs some color anyway.
One set will go on the patio.

Hubby again  found this table and chair set BARBIE sized... for the Barbie House (Xmas).

 It was 17.99 but I have seen the same for $45.00 on line +postage. 

This will be the largest purchase for the Barbie house

 as I have been collecting from thriftstores and garage sales since March.
PS...hubby is cutting the dollhouse out today, I have to get out there and photograph it.

Smiley Snowman here, may become a smiley ghost for Halloween. 

Found him at the craft show. He is a REDO kettle lid...painted so sweet.

 And oh my gosh, ALL the holdiays are just around the corner.
