Tree Lighting and Food Drive:I'll be Home for Christmas

AD-FREE Blog

I still do my dolls on my other blog,  but as this display part of my holiday decor now, I thought I would include them here. If you click on my photos--they will send you to barbieoldnewgreenredo.blogspot.com/

But, please enjoy!~ Something Fun!

Tree Lighting and Food Drive

This is Tereeza for Channel 7 Noon News in Chicago. I'm in the Northside Community Park, where tonight there will be a Tree Lighting and Food Drive.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Hopefully the rainy weather won't keep the neighborhood families from coming out for the lighting this beautiful tree and donating to the
food drive.

There, they are testing the lights. This should be a great event, signing off and see you at 8pm, LIVE on Channel 7 tonight for this tree lighting.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

It's Dusk and the Park is almost ready for the Event.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tereeza: Alderman Derek, how nice to see you here at the Food Drive and Tree lighting.

Alderman: Thank you Tereeza, I'm here with Monica who is chairwoman for the Food Drive and this event.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Monica: Yes, the neighborhood is trying to help any way we can. All the food collected tonight will be taken to the Food Bank over at St. John's to be distributed to those in need. We have so many right now!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tereeza: Well, you have a great crowd here tonight and your bins are almost full. Can people bring food in still tonight.

Monica: The bins for non-perishable food items will be placed at neighborhood shops for the duration of the holiday season---the need is so large this year. And, we thank everyone for opening their hearts and pantries for those in need.

Thanks so much, Monica and Alderman Derek. Next, we have Colette Deveraux who will be leading the sing-along after the Tree is lit.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tereeza: Miss Deveraux, how are you involved with this event.

Colette/Callie: Well, Tereeza, Colette Deveraux was my stage name in France, but I'm Callie Devers from Joliet, and I'm so glad to be home here in Illinois. I live across the street from this park in the Grand View, and really wanted to join with the community for this event.

Tereeza: Well, what will you be singing tonight for us after the tree is lit?

Callie: "I'll be Home for Christmas, if only in my dreams" by Kim Gannon and Walter Kent, 1943.

Tereeza: Thanks, I really love that one.

Tale of Two Trees For Us!

 Ad-Free Blog

Once upon a time there were two lively OLD people...locked in their home, with no promise of company or prying eyes...to see their decorating Faux Pas.

Shock above shock---they decorated for themselves and no one else, after killing their backs and knees decorating the OUTSIDE for everyone else!

Exhaustion had set in ...when Hubby said, let's use the decorated tree in the closet down stairs, up here.

oldnewgreenredo

The thought of facing fifteen totes of decorations for the usual Tree...I quickly agreed. The tree from the Rec Room, was a woodsy-

Fishing-

Wild-life themed-

and would easily fit on top of our window table! A few snowmen and Belsnickles were on it also!

So up it came, ker-poof, add a string of thrift shop gaudy lights and Wha-La!

DONE...It's been on every night and all the gray days! I only had to displace one lamp, instead of an exercise bike, 7 plants...

oldnewgreenredo

a 6 foot table and probably a rocking chair...and who knows what else! HECK---no one is going to see it but us, and it is definitely ENOUGH for this year!

oldnewgreenredo

Actually it was fun to revisit this tree, as when we have everyone for Christmas, I never get to be in the basement because I'm too busy--! I love these little gourd snowmen...I think we have four of them. All hand made, oiled and polished from real gourds.

oldnewgreenredo

And the handwoven deer---we have eight of those...of course you have to have eight.
A dilapidated fishing shack, the red bead lights, which are pretty in the daytime and add a pop of red!

oldnewgreenredo

Totally exact miniature hurricane lamp...a silly wood reindeer, and a fish up a paddle, lol.

oldnewgreenredo

THE Bald Eagle sits on top...why...? Because he can and who is going to try and stop him.
I totally love the harbor float lights...those I found in Hubby's hometown. The Loon is for a special memory on a lake in upper Wisconsin.

oldnewgreenredo

The rope balls, are hand made, and another snowman! Look at his corn cob pipe...too FUN!

oldnewgreenredo

I love mushroom birds, and this little cottage made of all mushrooms and natural materials, so woodsy!

oldnewgreenredo

Another deer---they have such energy and weigh nothing!

oldnewgreenredo

I hope you are decorating for YOU--what makes you happy. Hubby is as pleased as landing a 4# Bass! LOL.

And the best part-----

I put a tree in the bedroom with

oldnewgreenredo

Dolls, Pearls, Shoes, hats, a pair of Granny's gloves...as I find more things, I will add. It throws a sweet light...and looks great with the few ornaments I have found over the past couple of years.

This may stay up for a long time, I love the shimmering lights on a winter's night!

And, Hubby says fine with him!
