Chicagoland Lake Snow and Buried Leaves.

Ad-Free Blog

I think this is the third year in a row with leaves still on the trees and then a snow. It certainly is late enough to snow here in Chicagoland. But, temps in the 60's-80s in October and no frosts and now we have a SNOW EVENT here in Chicagoland.

We are fortunate, we are maybe 1 or 2 miles further from Lake Michigan than the Lake SNOW buried point, so we escaped with lots of wind and about 3-4".

Some snow numbers hit over 12" depending on the wind and how close you were to the lake in Lake County, Illinois.

We had wonderful bright sunshine this morning that melted quite a bit already. You can see the leaves now which had been totally cleared off before the snow...and WHOOSH  it's a big soggy playpen right now on the porch.

Mother Nature has been stalling all Fall, with those warm temps and some bushes are just turning now...the Gingko just changed, but I'm sure it won't last a day.

My Fall Arrangement on the bench is going to have to get 'SPRUCED" up a bit
as we slide into winter from summer/fall.

My 'cleaned' up flowerbed, where I left quite a bit for sheltering bugs, bees, and unfortunately Bunnies. Yikes we had Bunnies, despite gallons of coyote urine.

But the porch is almost ready for a sip of Cocoa or a
Hot Toddy.  I just need to find my outdoor
tablecloths. We pull all the furniture under the eave so we can keep the porch open to blow snow.
Facing South, it usually melts off pretty much.

We are going to try and put up some
Christmas lights this weekend outside.

We need help this year because Hubby is having eye surgeries....and won't be much help. I just noticed now all the leaves are gone on our Maple and a Christmas ornament is in the tree, well we are that far on decorating for Christmas now. LOL

I remember the ground was too squishy for climbing a ladder that high to take it down. Grins...even this 77year old has better sense than to try that.

So we have officially started for Christmas...lol.

Thank you for any and all comments. I will try and answer each and every one.

Take your Daffodils and ......!

Ad-Free blog

I love Spring, actually I love all seasons...sigh, but we grow weary of winter here in NE Illinois. Not as much as we did living in N. Wisconsin...lol!

Whilst YOU out in blogland are posting bunnies, nests, and Daffodils and welcoming SPRING, this is what we woke up to along with many other states!

oldnewgreenredo

This is actually after 9 hours of melting...we had 4-5" of white fluff. I couldn't bear to even look outside, and COLD...it has been bbberrrrrrrrrr---rrr---rrrr...lip rattling cold on and off.

oldnewgreenredo

And WINDY---well it is Chicagoland. Tossed around (after being frozen to the ground from the last rain) like flying Teacups! Branches everywhere, those stakes are from our holiday decorations that we haven't been able to pull up---like the poinsettias, greens and holly stuck in my pots. Yep, frozen in till Easter possibly?

oldnewgreenredo

Notice the lovely 'florals' in the foreground on this one---doesn't this make you think of Spring?

oldnewgreenredo

My Dutch couple, should be welcoming Spring with tulips or daffys...instead my pitchers hold spoons and a flag. Focal point is a snow cottage---LOL. How apropos!

oldnewgreenredo

I snagged this lovely Tea canister --for $2.99---crazy the thrift store charges $4.99 for a piece of ugly plastic canister and then lets this go into my waiting hands for a song!

oldnewgreenredo

Two more pitchers are waiting for some SPRING---PLEASE!

oldnewgreenredo

The sun is getting higher...the dead of winter light barely peeks over the garage.

Hubby has been doing odds and ends repairs here and there. Finally, I'm getting a shelf over my stove. It's 10" deep, so WHAT will I put here!!???
First, I have to find the appropriate tote in the basement...OMG, I hope it is labeled!

This is pretty much why I haven't posted much
in February or January for that matter.

What are you doing during this Pandemic and ETERNAL WINTER...???
