Observation with 2023

 Usually an Ad-Free Blog

My Observations with 2023--

I found it interesting how many blog-share parties disappeared, and others still have upwards of 200 participants each week.  I miss many of my favorite ad-free bloggers who have just dropped to the wayside. I think we leaped out of the Covid period and began 'LIVING' again with less blogging, reading, or sharing. Many of those who continue to do so---have the proverbial monetary carrot dangling in front of them to continue to produce and fill the internet with crammed AD upon AD upon AD.

I still love to puruse the How-To bloggers, but do tire of the constant barrage of products they hawk.

Speaking of hawking. When I finally was able to get back into gear from the basement upset, I filled my Etsy shop with so many items unearthed from my family stashes as well as my own and vintage finds.

Early 20th century oil lamp---quite unique.

Blue of course is my favorite color, and I had SOOOO much stashed away, in all conditions.

I realized I had five blue enamel coffee/teapots,

Fifteen biscuit jars, and oodles of blue and white everything,

A lot of Stashes of new craft items I made last year in a fit of creativity!

Also a bunch of New Old Stock (NOS) from my brick and mortar shop.

I still have fifty some totes to go through, most of which is fabrics, antique laces, 1880-1900 clothing, jewelry, etc.

Much of this will be going into my Etsy shop over the next year. I did manage to list over 150 new listings, many of which had 3 or more items in them. I'm not even going to mention the name, but it is over in the right hand part of the blog with all that other stuff we ignore.

I did sell many items which has helped with the pain and expense of having to redo-reorganize everything. It takes time though and oodles of photographs, like another 3000+ photos this year. When you do 10 or more photos for a listing it really mounts up.

So no more back to 2023...or any more looking back, I think not---I'm going to charge forward into the fray of 2024. Thanks for putting up with my creative blog and crafting lull, and I plan to do some great things in 2024! I have a new phone, and honestly it takes great videos and I will try and film some serious how-to's.  I may try a few videos on Etsy even, as Etsy says it raises sales???

Yes, this is an unabashed plug for ALL of Etsy, but honestly you can get lost there in all the wonderful antiques, vintage, and crafted items. Thanks for your support and readership!

Hugs, Sandi

  1. At least you have an outlet. What to do with our treasures ? We need a website for other hoarders, I mean collectors for our children when we pass on. One day I heard somebody say "You cannot take a UHaul to heaven" so I called my only child and said "That's it. Bury me in a UHaul" (just joking).

    1. That's hysterical, I laughed outloud. Yea, I'm bad but my family absolutely threw nothing away. Thrift stores are quite happy when I show up and we trade 'stuff', lol. Sandi

  2. I like your pie-plate dioramas. What a clever idea and those aer lots of fun! I think we all wonder what we'll do with our "stuff" that the kids don't seem to want! Etsy is a good idea. (I'm with you on ad blogs. I don't mind hot links in texts or a list of supplies but pop-ups and photos turn me off. If my adblocker doesn't nab them, I generally stop reading the annoying ones. (try adding free adblock plus to your blog)

    1. Jeanie, they were fun...I got them up too late for listing, hopefully they will disappear (never make more of anything new you can't give away to family and friends) on Etsy this year. Hmmmm, will look into the adblock...I know that Follow it gives one in each mail notification---I figure that is a small price to pay for a free service. Hugs, Sandi

  3. Those are lovely items you pictured. I stopped blogging for several years and started up again in 2022. I just decided why not? I hate social media but got sucked into it. Then I quit and finally came back to something I like. Blogging. I was so pleased to find that others are still here, some of whom I knew from years prior.

    1. Yes, Sandra, it has changed so much. I enjoy those I do visit and a LOT in my mail, I simply ignore. The social media thing is definitely a hamster wheel to nowhere. Hugs, Sandi

  4. Sandi, I'm with you about most of it. There are some that advertise and my screen bounces around so much that it is hard to read, but some of them are so good that I still fight my way through..xxoJudy

    1. Right before Christmas I watched 5---FIVE video ads trying to load on a page, and all that would load of the blog content was the header...really tells you how important 'content' is to the blogger. I do find it's nicer when I skip so many of them. Maybe eventually we will really be able to void out that sort of stuff. My ad blocker does leave a bunch of gray boxes now...which helps. I just enjoy the 'real' blogs...lol. Sandi

  6. I know what you mean about the ads, Sandi. Some posts can't even be read with all the pop-ups. I've kept ads off of my blog and just added a few affiliate links...it's much less obtrusive!

    1. Affiliate links are far less intrusive, and usually you have to click on them to see---without the videos which totally are annoying. I have got my read list to less than half at this point, mostly because I'm not a normal consumer as we age, we just don't need the latest 'anything' out there. Thanks for commenting and the visit! 8. Sandi,
You basically took the words right out of my mouth about blogging...I have been a blogger continuously since 2010 and I do miss the "old" days when it was like having a bunch of pen pals, like when I was in high school, who shared similar likes and passions. There are still some of us who do not advertise or except endorsements...I am retired and I definitely do not want another job which blogging has become for many. The funny thing is that I originally started blogging as a way to advertise my Ebay shop where I sold my Victorian style crafts...Shortly after, the economy tanked and I stopped selling on Ebay which also had become a hassle as I already had one full time job....Glad to hear you will be back to blogging.... I still love the linky parties and have been invited to host one but I am waiting to see how things go now that I have become a grandmother to twin girls.... I love those dioramas you created and would love to learn more about how you created them...I hope you are having a good week!!

    1. Thanks, Debbie. I know there are so few of us that don't advertise...and yes, it was like a 'club' of sorts. Yes, the grand girls will change your life. I remember the first year Christmas trees on a table...just for sanity sake. Hugs, Sandi

    1. Thanks, Debra, and I have 50 totes I haven't even peeked in...and still maybe 20 full to list. Then I should consider thinning out the house, because my kids don't want it all---at all! Hugs, Sandi

  10. Enjoyed your post and seeing your treasures. I have limited my biscuit jar collection to inexpensive finds with pink roses; that helped! Will check out your etsy store.

    1. Kathy, I had a large shelf all the way around the perimeter of our kitchen which was great for display---then with the new windows and trim, the shelf shrunk and the height shortened, and the biscuit jars and pitchers I had up there looked dumb, so they have been in bins for like 15 years. LOL. Thanks for visiting, hugs, Sandi
