Today....for my own peace and for a deep cleansing breath... here's something different.
Leonard Cohen has always been one of my favorite writers and musicians... his words are spun with truth, and vivid word images, and always some sort of meaning for all.
Hallelujah was written during a very low point in his career for the album, Various Positions for Columbia Records. It was given the first spot on side 2, and pretty much ignored. The album eventually made it to America in 1984. Bob Dylan picked up the song and recorded it in 1988 and slowly it has morphed into the American psyche as a perfect song for many occasions.
Hallelujah by the Pentatonix...2016
This all brings to mind another favorite quote of mine of being accepted for who we are:
“Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of
feeling safe with a person —
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out,
just as they are, chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping, and then
with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.”
Diana Maria Mulock Craik 1826-1887 English poet and novelist.
So take what you can from this music choice for this day...or "with a breath of kindness blow the rest away."
I do love Hallelujah! My youngest son usually sings it to me.Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate Maristella. I find myself humming this often. Something so soothing that like Carol says "below pulls me up". Hugs, Sandi
DeleteHallelujah reaches inside and pulls me up - feels wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is the perfect description...Carol. I appreciate your view---I'm glad it touches you as it does me. Hugs, Sandi
DeleteSandi,
ReplyDeleteLove the song and Pentatonix's version is one of my favorites...Thanks so much for stopping by!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thanks, Debbie. Certainly is one of my favorites, and they are my favorite...I was going to post one of Leonards, but he sounded like a bull dog, caught in a grinder. I love his earlier 60-70's recordings though. Hugs, Sandi
DeleteThank you for this post, Sandi. It is so easy for me to get caught up in the "nasty" although I never forget the good. I enjoyed the singing of Hallelujah at the night The President and Vice-President honored the dead from the Covid virus. It is a beautiful song in more ways than one and I absolutely love it. It has taken over my "humming" from the Christmas carols. I also love the quote you used. "The feeling safe with a person" is a great comfort now..Stay well..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteAwww, Judy. That is exactly where I Was/Am when I posted this. I appreciate your kind words, and am glad you enjoyed one of my favorite quotes with the timely music, too! Hugs, Sandi
DeleteThanks for the Blog Party Hop Links Sandi, I'm bored out of my Mind in Pandemic Lockdown Extended Stay and the weather has been awful the past few Days.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite songs and poems, Sandi, this post was such a treat. Any version of that song makes me teary in the best possible "you really needed to hear this right now" kind of way. Sending you lots of hugs, CoCo
