Everything has a Season: Turkeys in the Yard!

Happy Sunday to All.

   Friday and yesterday we removed all the 'Halloween and Spooky' stuff from the yard, cut the grass and cleaned up. Saturday I came home from a thrifting trip to see this in the front yard.

They do make me smile....a bit of color in this November year which can be quite dreary here in Chicagoland. I swear you can hear them gobbling...!
That will be it for decorating until November 29th.

ONE precious holiday at a time. That doesn't mean I don't think about it. Don't be silly.
But, this time of year, I always think of this song by the BYRDS from the 60's. 
At the time, I thought it was actually a war protest song, but in my old age, it is also a guide from 
(Ecclesiastes 3) on how to live.





 Working retail/wholesale most of my life has cured me from starting Christmas in JUNE,..UGH! There is time for EVERY SEASON.
PLEASE, Take time to enjoy what you have
 Right NOW!

Seasonal Side NOTE....
Last weekend Sunday our kids were here helping with the yard. 
Always---they leave things behind....Son the hat, Grandgirl her earphones. Glasses are mine that have already lost a lens ($ store readers). So this is what I did, to send a photo to remind them..

He looks a bit like my son this way, without his signature 'smirking grin'. I bought this pumpkin to bake pies  for Thanksgiving.


I must say the Living Room pumpkin wears it well!
LOL...makes me smile, AGAIN.

Look who just FLEW in on her BROOM: The Witch on my Buffet

The Witch on my Buffet!

Hi! This year has been disruptive, hectic, and intense. I've been unable to do much gardening, we are surrounded with totes and bins that still need to be dealt with, the house is a fright (having nothing to do with Halloween) and that may be for another two months.

Yesterday a package arrived of a 'great buy'; a doll I didn't even know was being made. One of my favorite actresses, Helena Bonham Carter, arrived a Mattel doll made for the Harry Potter series. Her character is Bellatrix LeStrange...the  insane and dangerous witch vilan-ess.

Apparently she was at her best in the HPotter film, dark, daring, crazy, the perfect part for her. (I confess I fell asleep in the first movie, and haven't seen any of the others) But, the dolls from this series are so interesting. All are fully articulated and actually look like the actors themselves. I love the white bits in her fluffy signature ringlet hair.

Mattel outdid themselves, she is gorgeous. I adjusted her skirt, sheathed her wand, and let her visually cast magic on my buffet which is the only spot really decorated for Fall in our disaster home. 


I just had to share, that I'm decorating a bit, but not really, except for the lovely Witch on my Buffet.
 I may have to see that second HP movie!

JUST A THOUGHT: Okay, people....just hold on fer a second...!

I seldom rant online, 'cause I do it plenty in Real Life. Just ask my kid's, who have begun to think of me as doddering instead of simply eccentric.

Really my soul mellows with  the glow of LED lights in pumpkins,




(I actually miss the scent of candle-burnt pumpkin flesh) and witches swinging on brooms in the finally FALL cool, very cool Chicagoland wind....to the first lightest touch of frost-baring the grasses skeletal remains.


 We have the crisp winds now, but the mellow sunsets are something that only happens in real FALL.


Our tree hasn't even turned yet....this is an old picture.



I suppose, next week there will be thirty Christmas House walks posted-----and a meagre few Thanksgiving halls, mantels, table-settings squished in, REALLY!




I personally can't find my kitchen table for all the Hallweeny projecting, I finally worked on this week. Table top soon to be filled with turkeys, in two weeks or so.





When I retired from mass/merchandising, I gave up working on displaying Christmas in July with a 15-foot (wthorror) tree, to what I thought were nice family-paced holidays.




But YOU (you know who you are)---Ladies and Gents of Blogland are forever pushing the calendar up my..., to quote Eliza Doolittle, my "Bloomin' arse!"



Seriously, why can't we just take a breath, mellow, and enjoy the few days left of Fall---the leaves still on the trees haven't turned yet-



--How about long enough for me to find my Fall bins I didn't find for this season? Or, to add the few improvisational bits of Fall decor I did come up with.



Can't we---collectively not SUPER_PUSH the Season's and give Veteran's Day,
Thanksgiving, etc., their due.

Just a little time, because I know it will be a chore to find that one and only Thanksgiving bin I have hidden in the labyrinth of the basement storage.


I need time to catch my breath, savor the last bits of sunshine, have some tea on the porch.


Besides, we need to lose that five pounds we gained from eating the Halloween Candy, before we start in on all the pumpkin pie and holiday goodies, and.....


 MAKING YOUR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS----PERFECT!

Halloween and Pancakes:Windhill Pancake Parlor


Tucked away in northeast Illinois is the sleepy river town of McHenry, Illinois located on the picturesque Fox River. One of our favorite places to venture for breakfast is Windhill Pancake Parlor a block away from the river. It's one of those wonderful family places, filled with antiques, collectibles, teacup chandeliers and a bank teller's cage for a checkout.

Looks pretty standard and even this century with a new digital sign. 
But let me say, this place has a long history of celebrating holidays.

In the vestibule next to the candy machines---Look who greets you with a severed 
head on a tray. He looks real...and like he knows a secret.

First of all, the food is fabulous...they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we have never been disappointed in thirty some years. From pancakes to Fish Frys and Fish boils, all in the midwest tradition of hearty farm food. Fresh and tasty!

Escorted back toward the scarier part of the 'parlor', we passed a whimsical ladder of pumpkins beckoning you on.

Zombie window...and spiders everywhere! Brains  and creatures hanging from the ceilings.

A cast of 69 employees and volunteers decorate the entire restaurant. And it is different every year.
Two deep windows at the back of the parlor are staged ---spooky-scarey!

All year-round is the Choo-Choo that delivers ice-cream treats at the back of the ice-cream parlor. This is so much fun for kids of all ages.
