Our Halloween Outdoor Style!

Our Halloween decor has been out for three weeks, but continually tweaked here and there. We finally had a calm day with sunshine, perfect for some photos.

Our pumpkin lights are ancient. I originally cut holes in a bunch of trick or treat pumpkins years ago to place on lights stuck in the ground along the walk. Then the solar chargers were perfect size to use as a black hat as the pumpkins sat on the ground. Now with the railing and the railing solar lights, I tried the old pumpkins and it works. 

We have a bit of a spider theme going, so I added a spider to each one...also very old.

It's been summer here in Chicagoland until this week...goodness, I have blooming Dahlias and everything is still thick and growing. Frost is forecasted for this weekend, so that will be the end of flowering and tomatoes.

We didn't put any blow ups this year, we had two weeks of wind/rain and mayhem, so if it couldn't be anchored to the ground it didn't go out. 

Our Skellies are standing guard...and really creepy at night.

Keeping trick or treaters in mind, our decor is basically pretty friendly. All my decor is really old....I just move it around...look at the blooms still going.

Hubby brought three gates home, perfect against the mustard garage.

That Dahlia produced tons of leaves and not many flowers...maybe next year.

Another gate and my orange pots of flowers work well with the season.

Everytime our neighbors ancient Elm spews a branch I steal it for structure in my pots.

There is another one..its over 6 feet long and stripped of bark...will move it somewhere else.

The porch is sunshine and cozy...lots of color and a bit of Halloween with the pumpkinns

I can't wait to show you the night pics...and maybe blow the leaves off ...a daily problem.

My Metal Greenhouse is decked for Fall, just a couple of solar lanterns to set it off at night.

What is more Halloween than a Bat Wreath..bought last year at 90% off. Cardboard decor is a quick fix for windows, also from years ago 20 or so.

Come on and sit a spell...I promise the cat will leave you alone...!

Halloween at our Haunted Mansion.

 We still aren't in full house-living mode, with so many totes and seasonal items displaced. I have only utilized what I have found so far...well, maybe next year?

Thursday I had my monthly doll club meeting, and this is the meeting where everyone goes nuts and brings 3 or more dolls to display in some spooktacular settings. This year was no different. I imagine there were more than 90 dolls at this meeting.

My dolls' seasonal is all messed up, too. I knew where I had one small box full of costumes, and I knew where this doll was and her fantastic dress. I paired her Venetian Muse gown, sans the crazy headpiece, and added a Vampire cape....her accessories are for the Halloween masked Ball, and of course a spare bottle of blood, just in case pickings were slim at the ball.

Madam Venetian Muse said, "My Dearone, this bottle is near empty, would you like to step into my carriage and I'll whisk you away to my Chateau for a nightcap?!"

Another member's Fabulous Barbie House redone into a Haunted Mansion or Hotel....! all the rooms were full of spooky things and dolls!

I took Venetian Muse home and she almost looks like she is casting a spell on the toadstool.

She is so over-the-top dramatic in black and white!

At home, my Venetian Muse had to land on the Buffet. 

Who could forget that rattling bass voice of Lurch?

One of the fun things we did at the meeting was make this fabulous Vellum backdrop...some glue and paste as our craft host cut all the paper on a Circuit machine. 

Helen BC is still center stage, but is joined with my artisan gourd cat...so cute.

My mom's antique copper coffee pot, some toadstools, Lurch's bell pull. Who could forget that rattling bass voice of Lurch?

"You Rang.....!" 

I had fun with this, and moved it around until I thought it was done.

Decorating differently each year is sometimes quite organic and always changing as the season goes along. Remove and add and it will be a quick change to Thanksgiving in a few weeks.

My monster $Store Spider is just the right touch, they had been destined for the lamp post outside...but the weather has been too cruddy to work outside.

Fabulous Friday Photos and Memories

When I transferred into my new computer I lost two years of photos in the transfer...when you think of relying on computers for your life...it really is a shame when a Ka-FLooey erases history.

Luckily, I at least had my Google photos from my blog...while scanning through those---thousands, I pulled a few OLD favorites. Some very old...and thought I would share them as Fabulous Friday Photos.

Fall, hopefully is on its way. Yesterday we had the highest temp, 100+, and heat index, 120+, ever in the Chicagoland Area. It was stifling with our humidity, but this morning it is dreary and cooler. 

Thank goodness.

The Fall arrangement above is one of my favorites, because it has some of my favorite flowers and lots of naturals and textures:

'Spooky Spider', a cute Dollar Store spider.

This is was when our grandgirl was small and chose the non-spooky Halloween decor from my storage bins. She placed him on an old lantern and that was my porch decor for most of Fall.

The enameled container is a huge gallon or more coffee pot with a wood handle, I found at a farm yard sale probably 40 years ago. I dragged it home without a lid and a tiny hole in the bottom and my hubby wrinkled his nose. Oh, well--it's perfect for arrangements.

I often wondered where anyone needed an enamel coffeepot that large, then I recalled the huge coffeepots at my first job at 14 waiting on banquet tables at Dania Hall. We were a bunch of young girls of members, who often waited on tables for 350 or more at banquets. My great-aunt, Gudren, was the cook there for large events. The coffeepots were even larger in that kitchen, and were lifted by two ladies into the dumb-waiter to go upstairs banquet hall. Not an easy feat.

 Danish coffee is always the drip sort, boiling water poured over grounds in the large baskets lined with linen cloth. It was a tedious process, as large pots were slower to drain, but the coffee was the BEST ever, and the smell overran the huge and busy kitchen at Dania.

Happy Halloween from our Home to Yours!

Definitely some OLD, NEW, GREEN, REDO in this post. 

It's finally Fall in Chicagoland, trees and foliage have been gorgeous and just as quickly dropped onto the ground. We've had brisk temps and then some sweet warm days...I call them the Golden Pumpkin Days!

We really don't do that much decorating for Halloween. We are on the busy entrance to our subdivision, so foot traffic is scarce and so are trick or treaters. So, we decorate for the drivers stuck at the stop sign and ourselves. 

Hubby is responsible for the blow-ups. We didn't put the OLD 8 foot Cat up this year...it's been awfully windy this season.  

 

This is the NEW lamp post that replaced the tree hubby took down when I was gone this summer.  I used three NEW spiderwebs from $Store.  I used 4 cable ties to put them up---easy peasy.

Here he is making sure the OLD train is still working....I tripped on a cord and ripped it, Thank goodness for Gorilla Tape, it's working pretty well!

Our garage OLD wreath with a REDO, I added some thrift store spiders, a $ store web, and our Old stick pumpkins (these are leftovers from my shop days, closed for 16 years now)  and the pumpkin on the left was a Good Will) GREEN purchase. We have purple lights on here, oh, and the NEW planter---the other one disintegrated from the sun and leaked like a sieve.

Walking up the walk....you see a lone Iris standing tall in the front flower bed. Our Iris were all trampled in Spring with the Roofers...so we really missed their blooms. But, these sometimes bloom twice, once in Fall. Hopefully some of the other colors will try. Odd to see the Fall Red Sedum and blooming Iris in the same shot!

Up the stairs to the front porch---the couch is a REDO covered in a thrift store table cloth-New tag still on it,....perfect for the season. I'll leave it out until Thanksgiving. Tablecloths are a wonderful source for covering outdoor furniture.

On the potting bench the the 'old' pumpkins were bought at thrift stores and rewired if necessary. One PUMPKIN is real from the garden. The Skelly heads scream and laugh and their eyes glow----really kinda spooky, when anyone makes a sharp sound. The door always sets them off cackling!  

The plants are still hanging on and are being sacrificed to the temps. They will be composted...a GREEN 

thing to Do!
